Five-star Rangers booked their place in the last 16 of the Europa League after another heart-racing clashing with Antwerp.

Steven Gerrard’s came in as heavy favourites to reach their next round after their 4-3 win in Belgium, but things weren’t quite that simple at Ibrox.

In a thrilling game, goals from Alfredo Morelos, Nathan Patterson, Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic and Cedric Itten brought The Light Blues aggregate tally to eight.

However, Antwerp goals from Lamkel Ze and Lior Refaelov gave the hosts plenty to worry about on the night.

Morelos fired Rangers into an early lead after Kent won the ball back high in the middle of the park and slid the ball to the Colombian to rifle the ball into the net.

Refaelov levelled the game after prodding home Lukaku’s cross at close range following some slack Rangers’ defending.

That saw Gerrard look to his bench at half-time and replace Leon Balogun with returning Nathan Patterson at right-back. The teenager wasted no time and 16 seconds repaid the faith shown by his manger by driving the ball in off the post.

A brilliant bit of skill from Morelos to beat Hongla set up Kent to to net the third, but Lamkel Ze would take advantage of a mix-up between Allan McGregor and Connor Goldson to make Rangers worry again.

Morelos was involved again as he was dragged down in the box by Hongla, and Barisic stepped up to score from the spot.

There would be more late drama as Scott Wright was hauled down in the area allowing super sub Cedric Itten to complete the rout with an injury-time penalty.
