Leeds United want to sign RB Salzburg playmaker Brenden Aaronson in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Football Insights.

They suggest that Victor Orta wants to bring in a box-to-box midfielder with an attacking mindset to Elland Road next month.

Writing on their official Twitter account this week, Football Insights delivered the transfer update ahead of January.

“Leeds United are looking for a box to box/attacking midfielder in January,” they wrote.

‘USA international Brenden Aaronson (Salzburg) is apparently the one they want.”

Out of nowhere.

A box-to-box midfielder is exactly what Leeds need, but does that outweigh the need for a holding midfielder too?

The Whites are looking incredibly thin in that area and need more than just the one new signing next month – that is clear.

Kalvin Phillips is likely to be out until the end of January at the earliest after his surgery, and Adam Forshaw, although playing well, simply cannot play that role.

Bringing in a solid midfield base would allow the likes of Aaronson to shine if they did arrive at Elland Road in the same window.

The 21-year-old is flying in the Champions League with the Austrian side, starting all sixgroup stage games – setting up a tie with Bayern Munich in the knockout stages.

Will he leave that behind to move to the Premier League? It has happened before, and hopefully, Orta can get it over the line after finding “the one.”
