Bruno Fernandes joked about the criticism he gets for only scoring from the penalty spot and against smaller teams. In an interview with ‘Sky Sports’, the Portuguese joked that when Man Utd were thrashed 1-6 by Tottenham, it was 0-6 as “people say penalties don’t count”.

It seems unbelievable that after being a key player at Man Utd for a year, along with Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes also gets criticised. After the last two 0-0s, the Portuguese has been accused of only scoring penalties and when he scores, it is against bottom half teams

However, the midfielder took that as a bit of a joke. In an interview with ‘Sky Sports’, Bruno Fernandes admitted that he is not going through his best moment, but he joked with certain humour the issue of penalties and weakened opponents.

“I don’t what people mean with the top six because I have scored and assisted against some of those teams in top six. I even scored against Tottenham, but people say that penalties don’t count, so the game didn’t finish 1-6, but 0-6,” he joked.

“I know that people expect me to score and assist in every game because when I arrived, I was playing very, very, well and I want to do that (keep on playing well), Bruno Fernandes continued. His last goal came on 21st February against Newcastle.

I don’t look at the Big Six or the rest of the league, I look for every game in the same way. If people want to look at the stats in the last few games against the big teams, my passing accuracy was good,” he insisted.

But he did admit he could improve: “I think just against Chelsea was not really good and I agree in the last two games I didn’t play very well. I don’t need to look at stats to know whether I’ve played well or not, I know that,” Fernandes concluded.
